Oh thanks! I don't think The Pig Wars make it into many history books in any case. When you don't live in Boston or Philadelphia you gotta snatch up any local history you can!
I love this framework! As an Elementary teacher, picture books are a staple. Unfortunately, they are used less as kids get older. I’m happy to see that you use them with high school students.
1)Jen, did you also go to American camp? Stark difference but interesting comparison.
2)Four cool hikes on Lopez even for the kiddos.
3)Since you didn’t see Michael while on Orcas you need to stop there again and you better stop and say hi to me coming or going if you go out to San Juan’s.
4) Jen I absolutely loved Eliza Waite! I had a hard time putting it down when I had to walk my dog or even go to bed.
Oh! I love that you’ve read Eliza Waite too!! Have you read her other books? We did go to American Camp a few years ago. It was in February and very cold! I couldn’t find any pictures though. I’m hoping to camp/hike Lopez this summer. I’ll definitely let you know when ❤️❤️❤️
I’m not positive but I think I started one but couldn’t get into it. I guess I should look for her other books and try again. Anddddd, if you camp at Spencer Spit you could still possibly see Michael as he goes to all the island’s state parks for repairs if needed.
Or camp at the smaller campground (maybe not as great for the girls) at Mountain Lake half way up Mt Constitution and Michael lives in a log cabin across the road at the lake. I think they have reservations for that campground too. I like it better because it’s quieter and you could still drive down to Cascade Lake.
Not a history teacher, but your post was incredibly informative and fascinating. What great stories, so vividly told. Thanks for this.❤️

I was taught in WA state and didn't learn about the Pig War until I was doing my own intel on the San Juan Islands just two years ago haha.
I never learned half the stuff I teach my students now. I had no idea about Haitian Revolution until I started teaching (or the Pig Wars)
So true!

They really are the best teaching tool.
Thx for the recommendations.
Jenn, this is cool ... now I understand what your ‘Stack is about. Well done.
A little bit of reading, a little bit of traveling, and a little bit of teaching. I know we’re supposed to have a niche but…
I immediately thought that this is perfectly pitched to teachers ... it feels like you’ve got a natural implied audience.

Perfect! Or maybe we’ll just camp at Lake Moran and see him on Orcas. I haven’t read her other books yet, but will be soon!
